There is some evidence to suggest that consuming high-phenolic olive oil (HPOO) may have potential benefits for memory loss, including reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Olive oil clinical studies in treating Alzheimer’s disease

A study published in the Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology in 2017 found that a Mediterranean diet supplemented with HPOO was associated with improved cognitive function in older adults over a period of three years. Another study published in the journal Aging Cell in 2019 found that consuming HPOO  reduced brain inflammation and improved cognitive function in mice with an Alzheimer’s-like condition.

Another study published in the Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging in 2015 found that daily consumption of HPOO was associated with improved memory and cognitive function in older adults over a period of two years. Another study published in the same journal in 2017 found that HPOO consumption was associated with a reduced risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition that often precedes Alzheimer’s disease.

    olive oil and memory loss

A recent work published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2018 found that daily consumption of HPOO for 12 weeks improved cognitive function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Among other research publications in this field, is the one published in the same journal in 2020, which found that HPOO supplementation improved memory and executive function in healthy older adults.
